Wuling National Forest Recreation Area

Hidden deep within Wuling Farm, a forest symphony of autumn maples, pine woods, waterfalls and the Formosan landlocked salmon is the most memorable image of Wuling National Forest Recreation Area. Taiwan's third national forest recreation area, it lies about four hours from Taipei at around 1,800 meters, kept notably cold by descending mountain air. Its most iconic spot is the Taoshan Waterfall Trail, lined with serene Taiwan red pine forest; the rich forest ecology is another highlight, with Formosan macaques, Mikado pheasants, Swinhoe's pheasants and vinaceous rosefinches as regular visitors, and the magnificent mist-wreathed Taoshan Waterfall at the trail's end.
