Fushimi Inari Taisha

Fushimi Inari Taisha

Fushimi Inari Taisha is a Shinto shrine in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto, Japan, and the head shrine of the roughly 30,000 Inari shrines across the country. It draws the most New Year (hatsumōde) visitors of any shrine or temple in the Kinki region (4th nationwide in Japan in 2010) and is famous for the "Senbon Torii", the thousands of torii gates on its grounds. It is a Myojin Taisha listed in the Engishiki and one of the Twenty-Two Shrines (upper seven). Formerly ranked as a Kanpei Taisha, it is now an independent shrine unaffiliated with the Association of Shinto Shrines. The current hereditary shrine family is the Ōnishi family.
