Yoshida Shrine

Yoshida Shrine

Yoshida Shrine is a Shinto shrine in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto. It is one of the Twenty-Two Shrines and was formerly ranked as a Kanpei Chūsha (now a Beppyo shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines). In the late Muromachi period, Yoshida Kanetomo founded Yoshida Shinto (Yuiitsu Shinto) here; as the head family of the shrine establishment, the Yoshida family controlled shrines and priests throughout Japan and held immense authority in the Shinto world until the Meiji era.
