Atago Shrine

Atago Shrine

Atago Shrine is a Shinto shrine at the summit of Mount Atago in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto. Formerly ranked as a prefectural shrine (now a Beppyo shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines), it is the head shrine of the roughly 900 Atago shrines across Japan; it was formerly called Atako Shrine and is commonly known as "Atago-san". Long famed as a shrine of fire prevention, its "Hi no Yōjin" fire-prevention talismans are especially well known.
