Matsunoo Taisha

Matsunoo Taisha, formerly known as Matsuo Shrine, is a Shinto shrine in Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto. It is a Myojin Taisha listed in the Engishiki, one of the Twenty-Two Shrines, and was formerly ranked as a Kanpei Taisha (now a Beppyo shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines). Since the medieval period, the deity of Matsuo has been revered as a god of sake brewing. In 1950 the shrine was renamed "Matsunoo Taisha" to distinguish it from other Matsuo shrines.
