Jinxiaolu B&B (錦小路民宿)
Jinxiaolu sits on a small lane. It was once a tiny café; before that, it was the childhood home of the current village chief; earlier still, it belonged to the family behind a well-known Tainan angelica duck restaurant. Going back even further to the early Republican era, it was a herbal storehouse built by Chinese medicine merchants who landed at Fanliao Harbor. They used ballast stones as the foundation, stacked large eight-inch red bricks with clay in between, and coated the surface with oyster-shell plaster. Peering through the early hand-cast iron window grilles and the thin glass of old Taiwan cypress windows, we were delighted to discover this old house tucked away on the lane, quietly preserving a century of splendor. Jinxiaolu – a Japanese-style whole-house rental B&B in Tainan.
