The One Inn (The One 人文客棧)
"The largest mountain garden in the Chinese-speaking world." Completed in 1985, Nanyuan was originally the retirement residence of Wang Ti-wu, founder of the United Daily News. Designed by Han Pao-teh, known as the father of Taiwanese architecture, it draws on the heavenly-palace-on-earth vision of the Song dynasty painting "Ah Ge Tu" by Zhao Boju. Built by a hundred highly skilled craftsmen, it seamlessly blends three architectural styles: Jiangnan gardens, Fujian-style buildings and Western-style arcaded mansions, meticulously crafted into an unrivaled work of art and hailed as "the most beautiful mountain garden in the Chinese-speaking world." This ingeniously designed garden estate has hosted many heads of state and dignitaries, including Margaret Thatcher and Mikhail Gorbachev. "A new kind of cultural resort experience": in early 2007
