Chikan Xilou B&B

B&B license no. 134. Chikan Xilou B&B was the former residence of the Hong family, wealthy leather-goods merchants trading across East Asia. Its history dates back to the Taisho era, and the present building was rebuilt in 1945, taking seven years to complete using modern reinforced concrete construction, which was very rare among early private homes in Taiwan. Standing four and a half stories tall, it was once an important local landmark and is said to have been the tallest private house in the Tainan area, second in height only to Hayashi Department Store (a municipal historic site).
