Earl B&B (伯爵民宿)
Kinmen stands guard over the Fujian seas, surrounded by ocean on all sides. Formerly known as Wuzhou, it has also been called Xianzhou, Wujiang, and Wudao. The name "Kinmen" (Golden Gate) dates to the Hongwu era of the Ming dynasty, when a garrison was established here and Zhou Dexing, Marquis of Jiangxia, built fortifications. Guarding Zhangzhou and Xiamen on the inside while commanding Taiwan and Penghu beyond, the island was deemed "solid as a golden rampart, a mighty gate over the sea" — hence the name Kinmen. Surrounded by the sea and rich in cultural heritage, it features clusters of Minnan-style and Western-style historic buildings, with scenic spots across the island. Having weathered the Battle of Guningtou and the September 3rd and August 23rd artillery battles, Kinmen offers abundant war relics and military fortifications, along with the mystique of its long isolation and its unique bird life.
