The straight, grid-like roads around Jiadong Garden are easy to drive, but watch out for birds. Bring a few nice outfits—the garden's rare trees and landscaping will keep your camera busy. At night the courtyard is dotted with garden lamps, making it wonderfully romantic for couples. Comfortable shoes or sneakers are recommended; free bicycles are lent out on a first-come, first-served basis, and if you miss out, a stroll or jog is just as pleasant. Families with young children should take care: the koi in the pond are beautiful, but children should not approach the water alone. If you head out after check-in, it is best to return before dark—karaoke and a mahjong room are available on site. The barbecue area and the large tea table in the lobby are yours to use; just remember to bring your own food.
