Annong Retreat

Newly completed in 2017. A conversation with the interior contractor about a TV table board led to a 12.3-meter old-growth Taiwania (incense cedar) log. As first-time buyers of raw timber, worried the wood might prove poor once cut, the owners visited the lumber yard several times a day and deliberated for over two weeks before finally taking the gamble. Luck favored them—the quality turned out unexpectedly good. The interior makes full use of this cedar: outdoor and indoor lighting, tabletops, and decorations are all crafted from its offcuts, and each room features a 5.3-meter log headboard, letting guests get closer to the texture and fragrance of the wood.
