Deer Watching on Daqiu Island
Daqiu is a small island north of Beigan. In earlier days it housed hundreds of soldiers and residents; today only a few old houses covered in creeping fig remain to tell of its past. Besides the original passageways, the island now has a main walking trail. Daqiu covers about 0.6 square kilometers and features an island-loop ecological trail. It is rich in flora, fauna and sea-eroded landforms; along the trail you can see former military installations and free-roaming sika deer, as well as sweeping coastal scenery. The northeast side of Daqiu is the best spot to admire its coastal landscape, with sea-eroded gullies and caves.
