2026 Matsu Baimang Cultural Festival
Baimang is Matsu's most representative cultural event and highly distinctive, registered in 2019 as one of the Ministry of Culture's nationally significant folk customs. "Baimang" is Fuzhou dialect meaning "arranging the night"—laying out offerings at night to honor and thank the gods. Held around the Lantern Festival each year, it features nighttime processions in which temple deities leave their temples to tour the area and pray for peace throughout the land. The custom originated in the Changle and Lianjiang areas of Fuzhou and, passed down to Matsu, became the most important, grandest, and most distinctive festival of the year.
