2026 Baguashan Eagle Watching Festival
The grey-faced buzzard gets its Chinese name from the male bird's grey face. Because it arrives at Baguashan and the Dadu Plateau around Tomb-Sweeping Day, people in central Taiwan call it the "Qingming bird" or "tomb-sweeping bird," and as it comes from the south, it is also known as the "southern-route hawk." It is the official bird of Changhua County, symbolizing the Changhua people's values of keeping promises, honoring trust, and remembering their ancestors, and it is a rare protected species. Each spring from March to April, the buzzards pass over Baguashan on their northward return from wintering grounds. The local eagle-watching event has been held for 30 years to protect the grey-faced buzzard and promote ecological awareness.
Event dates: 2026-03-12 ~ 2026-04-30
