Riding the Wind and Waves: Special Exhibition on Ancient Austronesian Vessels
Traditional Austronesian songs often describe "here," "there," "wind" and "waves," alluding to the seafaring clues and migration memories of ancestors who, thousands of years ago, rode the wind and waves across the Pacific by boat. The ocean was regarded as a sacred space, and the songs include prayers to the sea and ancestral spirits, asking for safety and expressing respect for marine resources. Orally transmitted sayings also reflect Austronesian peoples' values regarding boats.
