Kinmen Mid-Autumn Bobing (Mooncake Dice Game)

Bo Zhuangyuan Bing, commonly known as "bobing," is a dice-throwing game and a folk custom unique to the Minnan (southern Fujian) region. Legend has it that Hong Xu, a general under Zheng Chenggong (Koxinga) born in Kinmen's Hongmen Port (Houfeng Port), invented the game during Zheng's campaign on Jinling to steady the morale of the troops stationed in Xiamen and ease their homesickness, letting soldiers play a round at Mid-Autumn. The game spread through Xiamen, Quanzhou, and Kinmen, becoming a seasonal Mid-Autumn folk pastime. Bobing has been handed down for over 300 years; it disappeared for a time during Kinmen's military administration era, so to preserve the custom and promote tourism, a Mid-Autumn event is now held every year.
