Dongyanshan Nature Education Center

Set among the Japanese cedar plantations on a tail ridge of the Xueshan Range, the center uses learning in a real natural environment to foster dialogue between people, the environment, and society. It lies within the Dongyanshan National Forest Recreation Area, part of the Shimen Reservoir catchment on the western ridge of the Xueshan Range. The mountain resembles the profile of a reclining face, and the morning sun rises from the position of the eye socket, giving the mountain its name ("east eye"). Its forests combine neat, graceful plantations with rich natural woodland, and the area also features 30-million-year-old trace fossils left by shrimp and crabs, along with other marine sedimentary geological formations.
